The Student Government Association (SGA) is a student-run organization that acts as a representative of the entire student body. SGA strives to lead by example in the areas of academics, extra-curricular activities, community service, school spirit, student events, and student-teacher relations.
SGA Positions
President – Leads the meeting, Attends and speaks at all Liberty events, is a role model throughout the school year through grades, sports and activities.
Vice President – Assists with all Presidential duties. Steps up when the president cannot attend
Secretary – takes notes and keeps up the SGA page on Classroom (CANVAS next year), keeps in contact with all SGA personnel.
Treasurer – tracks the funds gained and lost through fundraising events.
School Involvement
As the official representative of the student body. Student Government Association shall:
- Promote a greater degree of unity, respect, spirit, and cooperation among students, faculty, staff, and administration.
- Offer and oversee activities for furthering the academic, social, and spiritual growth of the student body.
- Provide a democratic and representative forum through which students may address school-related issues affecting the student body. .
- Represent to the faculty and administration the concerns of the student body regarding academic and disciplinary policies.
- Consult with the appropriate policy-making administrators regarding school policies and guidelines.
The specific delegated responsibilities of the SGA shall be to:
- Serve as the official representative of the student body to the faculty and administration.
- Act as consultants to the faculty and administration concerning all matters of student life.
- Promote school spirit and unity by sponsoring a variety of social events.
- Work in conjunction with the Assistant Principal concerning all matters of club budgets, events, and the establishment of an activities calendar for each academic year.
- Organize, manage, and promote school spirit by facilitating the Carver Den (school store) and other school events and activities.
Campaign
The Student Government Association (SGA) is designed to foster leadership skills, encourage school spirit, and teach democratic principles among students. As a student-run organization that represents the entire student body, SGA allows students to express concerns and take a stand on important issues. SGA strives to lead by example in the areas of academics, extra-curricular activities, community service, school spirit, student events, and student-teacher relations. SGA members should be role models for other students, both in and out of the classroom.
*In order to run, the students must have a reason for wanting to be in Student Government as they will work with the Administration. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 throughout the school year.
*The candidates will run and campaign for two weeks in August, with voting taking place the first week of September. There are no “buying “ of students allowed. This means that candidates may hang posters but they may not bribe, offer treats or bargain for votes. Each candidate must provide a one minute speech as to what they hope to achieve while being a member of SGA during the school year
