IB Mission Statement

“The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”

At Carver Middle School we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) which is a rigorous course of study that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective learners.
MYP students:
• Become life-long learners;
• Learn by doing and experiencing;
• Are encouraged to become critical thinkers;
• Explore global challenges;
• Learn for understanding;
• Develop self-organization skills: planning work; meeting deadlines; concentration/resilience; persistence; mindfulness; positive thinking;
• Are empowered learners who develop their talents;
• Are preparing for their future;
• Develop an approach to international-mindedness & cultural awareness.

The MYP Years is a 5-year program, of which years 1-3 are covered at Carver Middle School and is continued in High School in Grade 9 & 10. MYP students take high school credit courses in some subjects. IB Students go on to study in the internationally renowned IB Diploma Program (DP) in Grade 11 & 12. On graduating from High School, students who are awarded the IB Diploma may be offered a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship regardless of test scores/GPA. Upon completion of the IB Diploma in Grade 12 students can potentially earn up to 36 hours of college credit. IB Diploma students are actively recruited by prestigious colleges and universities across the United States. It should be recognized that the IB MYP prepares students for the IB Diploma as part of a continuum journey of learning and discovery.

The IB MYP consists of eight subject groups that are integrated through five areas of interaction. The six global contexts are:
• Identities & relationships
• Fairness & development
• Orientation in time & space
• Globalization & sustainability
• Personal & cultural expression
• Scientific and technical innovation

The International Baccalaureate program aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural respect and understanding.
